Parents Forum AGM 30th of April 2012

Dear parents and caregivers,

The AGM is confirmed on Monday the 30th of April 2012 at 7:30 in the Staffroom of WGHS.
Ms Roz Mexted (Principal) will be our guest speaker. We will be serving nibbles, wine, tea and coffee after the formal part of the evening.

For catering purposes could you please RSVP by the 27th of April to barbarascholten@xtra.co.nz.

Minutes Parents Forum Meeting 26th of March 2012

Westlake Girls High School Parent Forum meeting on 26 March 2012

Present: Barbara Scholten, Petra Vencatachellum, Beth Porteaus, Roz Mexted, Yvette George, Wendy Calder Jennings, Tania McDonald, Joanne Duncan

Matters arising from last minutes:

·         AGM is confirmed to be held in the staff room on 30 April 2012 at 7.30pm

Ms Roz Mexted (Principal) will be our guest speaker

We will have cheese, crackers, pate, juice, water and wine, tea and coffee available after the formal part of the evening

Beth will look after that part and Wendy is in charge of wine

We need RSVP by 27 April 2012 from parents who will attend for catering purposes

A reminder of the AGM is to go out every week

·         Tania is helping Beth with the teachers’ lunch on 27 March

·         Ms Mexted is going to mention at Year 12 assembly on 27 March 2012 that we would like 2 student representatives on the Parent Forum

·         There will be a rotating of senior management as staff representative on the Parent Forum

Treasury report:

Beth is still doing the catering for the parent/teacher interviews at this point and will give us a detailed account at the next ordinary meeting

End of Year Teacher morning tea:

Michelle Fleming will be coming to our next ordinary meeting to discuss a combined morning tea

Blog:

We have had nearly 2000 visitors to our blog site

Jubilee:

Will be held on Labour Weekend

Michelle Larnder is the contact person

Style Doctors:

This is our main fundraiser for the year and a fun evening out to enhance our knowledge about how to dress stylishly

Date: 31 August 2012

Venue: either staff room or hall, depending on numbers

Limit of 170 people per presentation

Cost: $800.00

We are going to sell wine and finger food will be provided

Jo is going to get a liquor licence at the cost of around $60.00

Wine glasses will be hired

We need a MC (master of ceremony) for the evening

Also we need help from the parents to get everything organised

There will also be raffles and silent auctions

Barbara is going to put the event on the ‘blog-site’ as well

Parent Forum:

We would welcome more parents on the forum, so please join us

Talk from Senior Constable Jacquie Brown:

She will be talking to the Parent Forum about how to be aware of any drug abuse and what our rights as parents are

The date will be in May

Gold coin donation

Constitution:

The constitution was signed by Ms Mexted and Barbara Scholten

Our financial year is from 1 January to 31 December of each year

Funding idea:

A special garden to relax – for students and teachers alike

Minutes of Parents Forum Meeting 27th of February

Westlake Girls High School Parent Forum meeting on 27 February 2012

There have been no out-goings this month

Matters arising from last minutes:

·         The Parent Forum blog on the website has had 1653 visitors to date

·         Student representative/s still need to be selected – Roz Mexted will help with selection

·         Caroline Thompson is leaving, she was to be our liaison person from the teaching body

·         The AGM will be held in the staff room on 30 April 2012 with Roz Mexted as guest speaker and a light supper. Is was suggested that we have an RSVP in regards to catering.

Matters arising today:

Parent/Teacher Interviews:  21 and 27 March 2012

Beth would need help with catering on the days of the Parent/Teacher interviews on 21^st and 27^th March from 2pm to 5.30. Needs help with catering and tidying up/cleaning.

Petra can help with the gluten free baking, but is not available to help on those days

Yvette is available to help

End of Year morning tea:

We discussed the end of year/November morning tea provided to staff from the Parent Forum

Suggestions were made to change it to a lunch so all staff can participate which was agreed

Parent Forum supplies the catering for this event with the help of the parent and grand-parent body of the school

Parents also have the opportunity to donate presents that will raffled off at the luncheon

It was discussed that in the future we could have a combined “end of year” luncheon with Westlake Boys High School

Discussion Blog:

Open discussions are encouraged

The minutes of the Parent Forum will also be posted there

Goals need to be established to build up funds

Everything that is donated to the school will have a plague

Events:

We are aiming to have something happening each term with one major event for the year

This year we are planning on having the “Style Doctors” in term 3 – Petra to get in touch with them and book them

Jubilee:

The school is organising an events manager part time.

The ‘man-power’ from the Parent Forum will be required for various things like parking warden, pointing people in the right direction etc.

Uniform:

The board has ratified proposal for new uniform, there are no details as to when, what it is going to look like or any other questions that may arise; the consulting process is just beginning
